Shyne On! Although maybe not here...

In further Diddy news, his maybe shooter/rap artist was released from prison October 6th and promptly transfered to the custody of immigration enforcement. I.C.E. officials declined to comment citing privacy issues, although they confirmed (although easily inferred) that he violated immigration law, and is being held in a western New York facility.

After the infamous Club New York shooting, Diddy, Shyne, and the Didster's bodyguyard stood trial for a barrage of weapons possesions charges, ranging all the way to attempted murder. Johnny Cochran managed to convince a jury to acquit, while Murray Richman's colorful lawyering skills failed to keep the Bad Boy free.

Here's to your freedom Shyner!

Mike Giant in name; down to earth in the art game!!

Anyone into street art has to be down with Mike Giant; I repeat on blast: HAS TO BE DOWN WITH MIKE GIANT.

Longtime legend in the tatoo and graff scene, Giant first made his name in the San Francisco graffitti and tattoo scene with his immortal crew: Rebel 8. Depicting traditional flash art with his own twist; his heavy linework always seems to compliment the interminable nature of his subject matter.

Love, death, women, and religion are consistent themes in his work and as such, are relatable on a very 'everyman' level. Symbolism persists and is the great underlying underline to a catalog of work that spans nearly three decades.

Although Giant is an accomplished and renowned tatoo artist, with droves of people willing to pay a priceless fee, he has quit the tatoo aspect stating: "You should really get tattoo'd by the hot shots around here (San Francisco). My skills have faded, and I really don't enjoy it anymore. Sorry."

As long as you keep expressing your graphic talents, you'll never owe us an apology Mr. Giant.

Look, I don't care if you love Hip-Hop; I DO!!

It's been YEARS since I've rewound one of Marshall's verses; however the man with almost as many pseudonyms as ODB (or Big Baby Jesus if you knew him like that) deserves a few rewinds on this one.

Black Thought and Mos Def are immortal, but Em gifted me with nostalgia. I wonder which is the greater feat in the era of ringtone rap.

If you've ever wondered what a social-networking headquarter looks like, feel free to voyeur out! Lord knows they are doing the same with you.

Who the EFF is Jeremy Scott!! (I know, do you?)

Relevance to modern life—and the modern fashion consumer—never seems to be at the forefront of Jeremy Scott's mind. He sees fashion more as an opportunity for cheeky social commentary (as in his)
—Janet Ozzard style.com

Look, fashion is filled with a million little people who are extremely important yet never get to see the limelight. This person is neither a little person, nor afraid of the limelight, however I dont think he is mentioned or profiled NEARLY enough. Bizzare is a staple of runway shows, but Jeremy Scott NEVER fails to push the limits and yet his pieces are unique/dope accents to anyones closet. Exhibit A:

JEREMY SCOTT web video thingy... Dir. NABIL from nabil elderkin on Vimeo.

Scott's stylings and designs have been perpetually labeled as lowbrow and avante garde, but arent these diametric terms? It is in his ready-to-wear juxtapositions that Scott pushes the All-American fashion affliction, we like flashy and fly, yet we're too scared to rock this stuff on any kind of regular basis.

I commend Scott for being overtly consistent in his seasonal lines, whether it be Spring Summer '10 or Fall '09 Mickey Mouse/50's inspiro! I dont care what anyone says; one or two of his pieces mixed into anyone's closet can be your consistent wardrobe exclamation point for those days that you just need it.

#musicmonday starts TODAY

kk, So musicMonday is a good way to spread the word on artists who don't get the backing of the Major record labels. Here we go:

88 Keys- Before D.O.A. stood for Death of Autotune; it stood for Death of Adam. Keys' debut album dropped last November (almost a year ago) and its still one of my fave albums of the last 365 days. WOW!, it was like watching Where the Wild Things Are, in short BLOWN AWAY.

It's the musical story of Adam; a young man on his journey to understand sex, women, and fatherhood. Death of Adam is a cohesive telling of a man's confusion in the one area of life that is wholly out of our control. No subject is taboo: waking up with an erection, becoming a friend where romance would be preffered, and lasting as long as possible during sex (even the agony of a man giving "repeat performances." For anyone who has ever experienced awkwardness, feelings of inadequacy, confusion, as well as those magnificent feelings of love and completion.

Keys manages to capture the span of a mans attitudes towards love and sex, however crude and candid it may come off

The Real Mr. West, this is to say the man has stayed True to who he is

Graffi-Couture a la Kaws

Favorite Graff/Vinyl artist Kaws continues his photo-sprucing in Vogue Paris November 2009 issue taking a blonde Jessica-Rabbit (Raquel Zimmermann) and juxtaposing her against Graffed-up walls to create some great photos. (via Kanyeuniversecity.com/blog) Photographs by Mario Sorrenti

Tavi the New Girl in Town; New Girl, Old Soul

Let me pre-empt the following by saying that Tavi Gevinson is 13 years old and always finds the most interesting ish and expounds points of view that seem to be of someone far more mature than her age implies. She did not write the article, (Written by Robin Givhan for the Washington Post) however she does a good job of promoting well written and interesting thoughts. Kudos always Ms. Tavi

"It's always a bit discombobulating when people raise their voices in anger because they've gotten wind that designers are making and selling $25,000 dresses. After all, it's not as if the existence of a dress that costs as much as a car negates the availability of cute $25 frocks at Target. And it isn't as though edicts have been issued that all women must now dress like one of the superheroes on Balenciaga's runway.

For personal and sometimes tortured reasons -- I can't have it so no one else can! -- observers declare that they just don't understand the attraction of these strange and expensive clothes. That would be a fair argument if those same complainers lashed out at people who spend thousands of dollars on Redskins season tickets, vintage wines, first-edition books or midlife-crisis cars. But those industries don't stir nearly as much ire from people who are uninterested in them.

Everyone has a passion that is lost on others."

Public School, loved the experience: Adore the Clothes

Public School is back for another run at the fashionworld and I hope they stay on their game forever....DOPE collection and they still manage to live up to their initial appeal of "European sensibilities meet Japanese street fashion"

Its been described as portraying the "well dressed gets in a minor scuffle" perfect!

I knew Diddy was tryin to kill them kids!!!!

So remember the original "Making the Band" a few years back....the one about the rap group....you know, Chappelle did the "Get me some Cambodian Breast Milk!!" bit mocking Diddy's Emperor-like request to "Fetch me some Cheesecake".....

Well unfortunately they had a health problem....sigh....I think Diddy's grimey ass knew the whole time....

check it out right hurr

Dave Kinsey, Akin to greatness

Kinsey on YouTube

So if you've never seen or heard of Dave Kinsey, you need to clean out the wax and put your ear back to the Street.

His work is social commentary; told through the characters he imagines might live on the very streets we walk, live, and breathe. Always dramatic in a very subtle way, his characters are larger than life while remaining a person we might ignore on a daily basis.

The white eyes are recurring, and in a recent interview he tells us they illustrate the 'deadness' in the people he observes daily. Moreover a reflection of the deadness in our souls, he infers the lackluster eyes in his muses are a result of our lives being washed out; they are a direct result of trying to block out the stresses in our lives.

please check out KinseyVisuals.com and BLKMRKTgallery.com for his work and to purchase as released....

Complex retrospective of Pastelle, Kanye's unborn fashion child

R.I.P. Pastelle

The link above takes you to Complex magazines' retrospective on Kanye's fashion growth and influence; which was supposed to culminate into Pastelle.

Although the Past Tell Museum is no more, we expect no less (and certainly much more) from Mr. West's future fashion endeavors.

Goodluck Mr. West, Mr. Fresh, Mr......by himself he's so impressed.

Literary Monday

Sooo, a book in hand is better than 10 in the bush....okay that makes no sense, but I still love Confessiorns of an Economic Hitman. If you've ever felt (or do feel for that matter) that there is some serious bullshit going on in the world between Multi-National Corporations and foreign governments then this book is a current events goldmine.

Through John Perkins' autobiography (of sorts) we are led (very innocently) into the process of how we put these developing countries into our pockets and call on them whenever we need favors. Often these favors come in the form of oil, or natural resources, or hey! even building a canal right through their country and then usurping their sovereignty in the name of Manifest Destiny (see Monroe Doctrine)

In short this book is a must read for anyone whose conscience is telling them that our corporations have been tinkering with the world in all the wrong ways, and for way too long.

I'm not done with it yet, but I was compelled to throw a few thoughts up in the name of all the blind eyes we turn, mine being the biggest offender.

He was Once a FairyTale

Before embarking on this discussion, I'd suggest dedicating 11 minutes to the short film, available here. I dont think much "dedication" will be involved, its uncomfortable to the point one cannot look away. Brilliant.

How does someone review "We Were Once a Fairytale", I suppose it could be done in three words.

What

The

Fuck

Okay, I suppose I could do better. It could be said that the Spike Jonze (of recent "Where the Wild Things Are" fame) and Kanye West short film is actually an allegory. Although if Plato saw this work he may reconsider his own teachings. Not quite the Allegory of the Cave, but still Jonze manages to convey an idea that once digested, might prove a valuable wealth of conclusions about our lives and the value we place on fame and achievement.

Perhaps this amalgamation of Ego and Fame is the fairytale that pre-celebre creatives search for and seek. Can it not be said that Andy Warhol and Damien Hirst suffered from the same public response. Sane people think their work is overhyped garbage, but its not the work, its the insight the work gives on the artist. After all we dont care because they are nuts, we care because their lack of sanity exists in us all. Some of us are incapable (or unwilling) to let that out. Celebrity is not Celebrity because its on television. Its Celebrity because they represent some extreme version of ourselves, or at least what we fancy ourselves to be.

What is 'Ye really drunk on, probably his own fame (although the booze certainly helps).

The drunken West has a few badbooze mishaps, including fucking a pillow (to put it bluntly). And then onto the very literal Coup d' Grace, where Ye kills his inner ratmouse.

I understand toning down the Outer Beast, but why kill the FairyTale within?

Thanks to Mr. West for giving us a chance to Overthink the demons that haunt us all.

from what you call JUNK he molds ART

I recently had the opportunity to meet artist Victor LaRosa who works in a variety of mediums best described as mixed media. LaRosa's works include lacquered collage's juxtaposing the female aesthetic with images of round supple fruits, liqueurs, and theatrical stage-pieces.
Pioneering a technique he affectionately terms Junk Art, Vic has managed to carve himself a niche in the Brooklyn neighborhood he resides. Far from junk, this artisticexpression relies on his eyes and hands to mold these pieces of discarded scrap metals, doodads, and whatzits into a nostalgic amalgamation.
The pieces walk the fine line between busy/and well positioned, evoking mental images of a flower where the eye might see a faucet, or reminding us that the smooth round features of a door handle can be as aesthetically pleasing as it is practical.
Mr. LaRosa is a lifelong Brooklyn resident and a Veteran of the Vietnam War. His work is available for viewing and purchase @ Mongo's located in Brooklyn, NY. Its on Smith St. between Douglass and DeGraw.

**Please pardon the quality of the photos as they do not do the work justice, I was armed only with my iPhone and did not want to let the opportunity go to waste. My apologies to Mr. LaRosa

Before I had a Blogroll

So most people have a blogroll, b4 I get mine together I want to just throw up a few random ones I like particularly...

:::full disclosure; Im a huge Kanye fan::::
Kanyeuniversecity.com/blog --

Mr. West's official blog, I find some of the dopest art, architecture, design, music, and just overall interesting musings here, I recommend it to everyone!

http://tavi-thenewgirlintown.blogspot.com/

Tavi is a 13 year-old girl who has a great eye and an interesting take on design. I check her pretty daily for all things color and cl0thing, although I'd never describe her as JUST those things.

DJATRAK.COM

Atrak is on his own level. If winning the world DJing championship @ age 15 isnt enough, he also produces and runs a highly avante-garde (cutting edge, not the music genre) record label. The website is actually his blog including thoughts on fashion, events, music and people. I come here to read intersting thoughts, the format is much like Kanye's blog but through a different set of eyes

@ Rime You'll Discover a Reason

So if just being in downtown Brooklyn isn't reason enough to get your look right, then let Rime do the rest. Originally I stumbled upon the shop unexpectedly, and was pleasantly surprised to find such an authentic little shop nestled quietly on Smith St. b/w Bergen and Wykoff. Adorned appropriately in OBEY prints and KidRobot custom Munnies they keep it True inside the shop.
Offering a dope selection and variety, from UNDEFEATED tee's to 10Deep button ups; they got you. Whether talkin shit on the stoop in a fresh tee and kicks, or out to a Brooklyn Law rooftop party in your button up and vest; THEY GOT YOU! and to top it off, a dope little footwear room in the back so you can concentrate on finishing your fit and coming correct.
Quick anectdote to illustrate. My amazing girlfriend didn't know what to get me for my birthday, but she knew that coming there would yield good results. They had her in and out in 20 minutes with a ridiculouslydope 10Deep Chambray button up. It happened to be a smidge small, they happily exchanged it the next day amid conversations of upcoming events and good quality sneakertalk
If you consider BK to be the most athome borough, then Rime might be the most athome boutique!
